INSIGHTS, TRENDS AND APPLICATIONS OF MAIPA TECHNOLOGY

What to expect?

Join us on October 22nd for an exclusive, in-depth webinar dedicated to the MAIPA (Monoclonal Antibody-specific Immobilization of Platelet Antigens) assay and its vital role in modern clinical diagnostics.

As diagnostic challenges in platelet immunology grow increasingly complex, this session will provide laboratory professionals, clinicians, and researchers with cutting-edge insights directly from international reference laboratories. Our expert speakers will walk through advanced methodologies, complex clinical case studies, and practical comparative analyses to help you optimize diagnostic accuracy in your daily practice.

Our speakers

Dr. Brian Curtis

Dr. Brian Curtis

Versiti Blood Research Institute

Biography

Dr. Brian Curtis is internationally renowned for his contributions to platelet immunology at Versiti, leading diagnostic reference services and groundbreaking research into immune cytopenias.

Topic Introduction

This session introduces the MAIPA principle and its essential role in identifying HPA antibodies, highlighting its advantages over other antigen capture assays – particularly regarding superior specificity and the prevention of false-positive reactions caused by human anti-mouse antibodies. Additionally, the presentation explores a clinical case study on platelet refractoriness due to HPA-1a antibodies within a transplantation setting, seamlessly connecting with the broader theme of the webinar.

Biography

Prof. Dr. Ulrich Sachs is a leading authority in transfusion medicine and hemotherapy, directing specialized diagnostic platforms and international research initiatives focused on immune-mediated hematologic disorders.

Topic Introduction

In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Sachs will explore the challenges of managing bleeding in patients with Glanzmann’s thrombasthenia (GT) who develop iso-antibodies against the αIIbβ3 integrin, leading to the rapid clearance of transfused donor platelets. Drawing from a clinical case study, the session will examine the presence of dual isoantibody specificities – anti-αIIbβ3 and anti-αvβ3 – and their distinct immunological and functional impacts. Furthermore, the presentation will demonstrate how to use the MAIPA assay to effectively detect these isoantibodies, underlining the importance of continued research for patients of childbearing age.

Biography

Mgr. Hana Tereza Bolcková brings extensive clinical laboratory experience from the Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion in Prague, specializing in advanced platelet immunology and diagnostic assay implementation.

Topic Introduction

In her presentation, Mgr. Bolcková will share some case studies illustrating the practical advantages of the MAIPA method compared to other methodologies she currently utilizes, such as Capture P, Capture P Ready Screen, Pak Lx, and in-house PIFT. Additionally, she will share insights from her ongoing work testing anti-CD109, alongside a brief overview regarding the detection of antibodies against HPA-15.
